MARKETING REPORT SPRING 2010

NERWOCN Spring Board Meeting Marketing Report:

1.  The Colo-rectal Cancer (CRC) Challenge is March 28, 2010.  Vashti Livingston is our WOC nurse team captain for a second year and is doing a fabulous job.  Vashti has coordinated obtaining WOC nurse brochures and many other activities for a successful team WOCN.  Cheryl Bealer and other NERWOCN members will be attending the race.  Vashti has invited interested Metro NY members to “host” these attendees on Saturday evening for joint activities (Ruby Foo’s).  Again, thank you to Diane Maydick Younberg and Vashti Livingston for joining me at the CRC Challenge kick off reception after a long day at work in January.  We learned out how the race/walk has expanded and new outreach (Facebook, tweeting etc.) have been added to reach out to the pubic to promote evidence-based CRC screening.   Members who can’t attend the race/walk can join the “virtual race”.  Please see: http://www.coloncancerchallenge.org/

Please note the CRC Challenge is a wonderful opportunity to tout the WOC nurse role in patient and family education for CRC screening to save lives.  There will be an opportunity for our Metro NY president, Vashiti, and Cheryl at the press interviews at the start of the race.  In addition, the CRC leaders will be interviewed during the CBS morning show on 3/26.  Please support this opportunity if you are in town early and/or live in the NYC area – see specifics below:

Join us on Friday, March 26th at CBS's "The Early Show" on the Plaza with Dave Price. In recognition of Colon Cancer Month, "The Early Show" would like to fill the plaza audience on the Friday morning before our event with racers, walkers, supporters and anyone involved in this year's Colon Cancer Challenge in Central Park on Sunday, March 28th.  We will be on national TV the entire morning, and during the weather segments,  Dave Price will promote our event and possibly conduct brief interviews. This is our opportunity to show a national audience that with early detection, colon cancer can be completely preventable, treatable and beatable.
When:                  Friday, March 26, 2010, Please arrive by 6:45 a.m.
Where:                 CBS Plaza 59th St. & 5th Ave. (near Apple Store and FAO Schwartz)
In order to ensure we provide "The Early Show" with an adequate audience,RSVP to Doelger@ColonCancerChallenge.org.

A call has gone out to schools of nursing for student volunteers with information about our WOC nurse specialty.  Promoting WOC nurse value and knowledge about our specialty to new graduates is another race/walk opportunity.

2.  Lynn Demartyn was interviewed on a local radio show regarding the role of the WOC nurse.  Lynn will fill us in as to how the broadcast went etc.

3.  Environmental scanning of marketing activities takes place by the committee ongoing with feedback to the NERWOCN president and coordination with our WOCN Marketing Committee representative, Diane Maydick Youngberg.  Diane will fill us in about the WOC Nurse Week resources/opportunities.

4.  A call for a NJ NERWOCN member for the Marketing Committee went out at the fall NERWOCN mtg.  Please E mail Maureen Dailey if you have interest of any questions.
